Overview
Omaha Permaculture is focused on modeling permaculture practices in urban environments. Our work impacts communities big and small: microbial communities that reside in the soil we remediate in our gardens; animal and plant communities that thrive thanks to our support of biodiversity in the city; and human communities that come together to learn and grow from the land we care take.
Since its inception in 2013, OP has been dedicated to revitalizing dilapidated vacant properties throughout Omaha. Through the cultivation of healthy ecosystems and urban agriculture related economic development on city lots, we've elevated their utility and value for the surrounding neighborhoods.
With 17 properties demonstrating permaculture in action, we bring environmental education into our neighborhoods via citizen science initiatives; landscape job training for at-risk youth and disenfranchised communities; community gardening opportunities for New Americans and neighborhood residents; and public workshops and gatherings. We believe in learning from the land in order to sustain families and communities.
