field manual

The Claire M. Hubbard Foundation-funded a first-of-its-kind OP Field Manual Almanac for ESL farmers and Reentry workforce. This regional farming manual serves as guide for the volunteers, interns, and staff working on our city lots, and reflects best practices in urban permaculture.

mentorship & training

Just as OP brings new life to forgotten city land, we aim to bring new opportunities to too often overlooked communities. Through partnership with groups including the Omaha Police Department's Gang Unity Reentry Probation Group, we offer landscaping training and paid work opportunities to individuals who can otherwise have difficulty finding employment. We also provide community gardening space and permaculture education opportunities to a growing Omaha refugee population.

citizen science bioblitz

Every year OP documents all living species on nine of our North Omaha properties during an intensive period of biological surveying. Groups of scientists, naturalists, and volunteers conduct an extensive field study over a continuous time period. This allows us to understand the diversity and abundance of species in our care, and offer an opportunity for students and community members to connect with the natural environment.

Workshops

We invite community members to learn about the many ways they can integrate permaculture principles into their own lives through a diverse roster of workshops that have included such topics as: wood milling demonstrations, rocket stove building, and mushroom cultivation.
